    What kind of help

    There are many ways to support a family in their ‘4th trimester’, or the 6 postnatal weeks.

    • A dedicated Postnatal Doula can support the mother and the family for an agreed amount of time. This Doula is trained via the Postnatal Support Network and will stay in-house or close to the family.
    • A part-time Postnatal Doula is someone who can give support for specific tasks for an agreed time in the week.
    • Coordinating a network which can help with food preparation, shopping, playing with other children or cleaning can be organized by a friend or the new father.
    Tasks
    • Food preparation with knowledge of appropriate postnatal nutrition;
    • Massage; belly binding (cummerbund);
    • Closing Bones Ritual;
    • Breastfeeding support;
    • Household support and grocery shopping;
    • Babysitting other children in the family;
    • Others in accordance with the needs of the family and the scope of practice of the doula.
    Training

    The Postnatal Support Network organizes Doula training all over Europe. This training gives both ancient and contemporary knowledge and practical techniques on the 40-day recovery time.

    This training is set up for anyone who is interested in making an important difference in the life of young families. Health workers, doulas, yoga teachers, grandmothers and young women who are inspired to learn more about the techniques and would like to serve in a dedicated way and has considerable time and flexibility.

    The Postnatal Support Network (PSN) addresses the importance of a well-prepared and relaxing 40 day postnatal period. It is an international organisation with a non-medical and social network, informing families and especially mothers about this special and delicate time after birth.
